Today is Daylight Savings Time, which means at 2am, our clocks were set back an hour. This also causes our daylight to dwindle away earlier in the day. Our biology uses the sunlight to tell us when to be awake and when to go to sleep, so you may find yourself struggling for energy when it gets dark outside. To ease your transition, you might try to make the inside (or even outside) of your home a little brighter. We have some simple tips that will lighten your home in no time.
-
Change dark lamp shades to lighter or more sheer shades to allow more light to pass through
-
Clean glass shades on exterior lights, sconces, chandeliers or pendants to brighten the fixture
-
Use LED bulbs with higher lumen output. They will give you brighter light without the heat
-
Exchange large decor items like rugs, throws, or even art with colors that reflect (rather than absorb) light
-
If you’re willing to do a little more redesigning, add layers of light with floor and table lamps, sconces, and under cabinet lighting
