Chandeliers are more than just a source of light for your dining room. They are a reflection of the style you have chosen for the space, and become a part of your home decor. You cannot let this monumental addition to your home fall by the wayside, and in turn make your design efforts suffer the consequences. We hope to tell you the most important things to consider when choosing your chandelier for your dining room so that you can make the most educated and successful decision in the end.
Size Matters : Do not overwhelm a small space with a gigantic statement chandelier, and just as well, do not skimp on a large dining space with an itty bitty source of light. In either case you will leave the room feeling unbalanced and incohesive. A good rule of thumb for finding the correct measurements is to find the width of your dining room table and subtract about 12 inches, and the leftover measurement should be the diameter of your chandelier. In any case though we recommend that if you were to veer much from these measurements that a larger chandelier is better than a smaller chandelier.
Find the Length : Always make sure you are checking for the length of the chandelier based on your ceiling height and the height of your table. It is common to have roughly 30 inches between the bottom of the chandelier to the top of the table. If the chandelier is too long it will end up hanging to low and looking awkward or making it impossible to see the person sitting across from you at the table.
Consider the Style : You want to choose a chandelier that works well with the style of your space so as to not disrupt the fluidity of your design. The fixture should complement the theme of the room and not take away from any of the other elements throughout the space.
Adjust the height as needed : As this somewhat falls into the category of length this additionally may take some extra handy work. This may require you to cut out certain links from the chain that may hold the fixture up or cutting off slack on the wire that will suspend the chandelier. If you do not feel comfortable doing this, there are many sources for lighting installation that would be happy to help.
Let us know if you have any questions or comments on these important factors in your chandelier choice. We are happy to help and look forward to seeing more and more beautiful chandeliers enter your homes.
